A quick video that examines the age old argument on what is considered FINE ART and what is considered a CRAFT? Its our starting page for this course as students examine a variety of assignments that throughout history started off as a true craft. A skill that was taught by masters in a guild or elders in a tribe on to the apprentices. With each assignment students will learn a rich cultural history behind the craft and then experience the skill needed to handle the craft. This hands on class is appropriate for any level artist!

UNIT INFORMATION
Students will be learning about the history behind the craft of book making. The lesson is in two parts. Part one is to examine the phenomena in grown up coloring books. Each student will design a coloring book page, all the pages will be printed. Each student will get a set of the pages and use the Japanese stab binding method to assemble it into a book. PART TWO: Students will make a 16 or 18 page "Itty Bitty Book" from scratch. Other option is to make an accordion book. If you don't understand how to fold the pages what these videos |
