DRAWING COURSE INFORMATION

Course Description:
Drawing is advanced course for the art student who plans on taking higher level art classes. This class will expand both student artistic ability, creative vision & imagination. Students will master traditional drawing media as well as explore new media. The goal of this course is for students to have a more in depth experience with observational formative drawing methods to strengthen their ability.

- Students will learn the importance of observational studies & Spatial awareness.
- Students will learn how to approach each assignment in a creative manner.
- Students will use correct proportions and size relationships in their drawings.
- Students will learn to use a variety of drawing media to achieve the desired results.
Introduction to Drawing
Students will learn about different drawing techniques. The goal is for each student to learn a variety of visual problem solving techniques when working from direct observation. The students will create several studies from objects to learn each technique. This will prepare student for upcoming assignments.

Students learned how to draw and shade in reverse. Instead of using graphite on white paper, stduents worked on black paer using white conte crayon and white charcoal pencil. The purpose of the assignment was to learn to see and recreate light, value and texture by focusing on highlights and middle range values. Students worked directly in front of the still life, some students used their digital cameras to photograph the glass stll life objects, transfer the photo to black and white to aide them in examining how the contrast, light and values look.

Assignment Three: Learning How to Draw the Human Face & Self Portraits
Students will learn about drawing portraits and the proportion of the human face. A PowerPoint ( below) will show the history how the desire to draw the human form began and take students through the rest of the unit with comprehensive directions and examples. They will first work from a photograph to create a realistic drawing of their face that they will shade with pencil. Later, students should take a variety of selfies and select the most interesting composition. Once contour lined and penciled in, students will use oil pastel and turpentine to color the portrait. The final drawing will look like a realistic oil painting.

ASSIGNMENT TWO: View of The a Art Room Using the Fundamentals on One and Two Point Perspective
This project focuses on teaching students how to use one and two point perspective to draw a room. The room drawing illustrates the importance of the underlying composition in a drawing. Students are to find an interesting part of the art room to draw, a view that attracts the viewers attention into an interesting composition . They should consider point of view and what perspective angle they are sitting at. A PowerPoint ( posted below) will explain the history of perspective drawing and how to create one and two point drawings of a room. The documents below are additional activities students should practice to improve their perspective skills.
