What Is Gouache "Gwash" and how is it Different than Trandtional Watercolor?
As we transtion from Abstract watercolor project into Gouache take some time to watch the videos that are posted to get head with your knowledge of this opaque method of watercolor.
|
Gouache (Gwash) is opaque watercolor type paint. Consisting of pigment, water, a binding agent and sometimes additional inert material it is thicker and grainier than traditional watercolor. Gouache is designed to be used with opaque methods of painting using layers of colors and white. The term, derived from the Italian “guazzo”, that refers to paintings using this opaque method.
The students learned about this style of painting and examined art created by John James Audubon. Audubon was an American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He was notable for his extensive studies documenting all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. |
